Horizontal & Vertical Droppers

Horizontal & Vertical Droppers

1st Nov 2023

FEATURES OF HORIZONTAL DROPPERS

  • They will be used for preparations where no exact dosing is necessary (for instance, essential oils).
  • Straggling is approximately 30%, which means the accuracy of drops to be expected depending on the viscosity of the liquid is ±30%.
  • During the dosing the bottle must be held sloping. The volume of drops depends on a number of things including density and viscosity, type of liquid, formulation/preparation (such as watery/alcoholic or watery/slightly oily preparations will have different flow characteristics).
  • Bottles are held at an angle to drop the liquid and by adjusting the tilt angle, the volume and/or frequency of drops can slightly vary (although is influenced by such things as viscosity of oil/liquid, temperature at time of dropping)

FEATURES OF VERTICAL DROPPERS

  • They will be used for preparations, where an exact dosing is required by uniform drops, e.g. dosage amount 0.05 ml per drop or 10 drops per 1ml etc.
  • Straggling is approximately 10%, which means the accuracy of drops to be expected depending on the viscosity of the liquid is ±10%.
  • During dosing the bottle must be held vertically (bottle inverted – mouth of bottle facing downwards) and can only be dropped when the bottle is held in the vertical position. Hence why vertical droppers are matched to a specific liquid, the prescribed dose required and bottle capacity.

It is important to establish the following before purchasing Vertical Droppers:

  • Drop testing of the liquid is required, so that the appropriate vertical dropper can be matched to the prescribed dosage required by you.
  • 50-100ml of liquids are required for dropping tests in Germany.
  • The dosing that is required, e.g. 0.05 ml per drop or 10 drops per 1ml etc.
  • Liquid Content, e.g. Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil, alcoholic/watery formulations, oily formulations, aggressive formulations, thin preparations, watery/slightly oily, highly viscous preparations (e.g. Glycerine), alcoholic preparations, etc.
  • What is the density of the liquid, e.g. Formulation Density 0.95 kg/L.
  • Which bottle sizes will be used (max bottle capacity for Vertical Droppers = 100ml).
  • Which closure will be used, e.g. 18mm One-Piece Tamper-evident, 18mm Two-Piece Tamper-evident, 18mm Tamper-evident child resistant or the 18mm Non Tamper-evident.
