Global Sourcing Case Study

Mother of Pearl Vodka

Launching a new brand isn’t always easy, and whilst various options for completely customised bottle shapes were discussed, utilising our experience and expertise, our Business Development Unit were able to guide the client towards the high-end, Lolita spirit bottle for brand launch. The curve of the selected bottle’s shoulder beautifully complemented the client branding, invoking a style reminiscent of a gentle ocean wave. Whilst utilising a bottle not widely supplied in Australia afforded Mother of Pearl unique positioning in the market, selecting a global, off-the shelf option available within Plasdene’s existing supply chain, meant mitigating risk for a start up launch of a new brand, without over-extended customer investment, or compromising the brand’s premium status.

Delivering supply flexibility that removes barriers to launch and fosters growth, our national warehousing capability afforded the client to work with interstate contract fillers with ease, as goods can be shipped in general stock consolidated containers to ensure cost efficiency. Utilising our blanket order drawdown facility, stock is held in our nearby distribution warehouse and delivered in batch quantities for bottling, as required.

PGP’s extensive industry connections and experience proved beneficial during the development and planning process. The original client brief incorporated beautiful imagery of a pearl diver, with complex artwork and graduated hues reflecting the change in water colour as the diver swam further below the water’s surface. Whilst the complexity of the design for direct to bottle printing proved challenging to achieve within budget and timeframe (and prohibitive for launch volumes), through alternative solution recommendation and facilitated introductions by the Plasdene Glass-Pak team, a similar aesthetic was achieved with much lower investment commitment, through full body sleeving with a preferred third party provider here in Australia. What was originally a compromise, became a sustainable choice and market advantage for the Mother of Pearl brand. By utilising a full bottle removable decoration sleeve, maximum shelf appeal could still be achieved, yet consumers would now have the ability to remove the sleeve via the perforation, for improved recyclability or repurpose.
